  Gary Duvernay

00.gary duvernay is a designer, sound artist, reseracher, writer and DJ whose practices moves between sound, form, and perception. He explores sound as a critical material — to question how social and political constructions resonate within our daily environments, and how communities emerge, fracture, and heal through shared sonic experiences. His works unfold across installations, sound art, performances, and texts, each developed through a sensitive inquiry where emotion, intuition, and theory intertwine. Drawing from both embodied experience and conceptual frameworks, gary duvernay approaches creation as a means to reveal, support, or deconstruct the systems that shape our collective realities. His practice navigates between poetic intensity and analytical depth, using sound and design as instruments of reflection and resistance — tools to sense, to feel, and to think otherwise.

This project explores the acoustic and architectural echoes of post-industrial spaces, focusing on the Lieu Unique in Nantes. Once a biscuit factory, now a cultural hub, the building symbolizes a broader tendency to repurpose industrial sites without acknowledging their labor history. Through a sculptural installation, embedded speakers and moving images, the work gives form to what remains unheard: the rumbling of past work and collective memory. Field recordings and archival sounds—strikes, machines, voices—emerge from within the structure, resonating through cracks in concrete and wood. By listening through the grounds, visitors encounter a space where time folds—past and present blur, and speculative futures emerge. By looking through the ceilling, visitors glorify past struggles and protest to reclaim the victorious past of workers. Rather than build over the past, this piece builds with it, proposing a method of sonic memory. It is both a critique of cultural erasure and an invitation to hear what still lingers beneath the surface of renewal.
